Cascadas del Norte/ North Cascades
Lo blanco es blanco
y lo verde es blanco
y el cielo es blanco
y las piedras se esconden
“así se muere la gente”
decís
pienso en el humo propio
de un cigarrillo
e imagino que es eso
lo que nos envuelve:
una ceguera familiar
vemos a dos metros de distancia
nuestro paso delimita la circunferencia
en que nos vamos a morir
una y otra vez
hasta encontrar la salida
“a mí me hace acordar a Inglaterra”
miento
imagino los verdes intensos
transcurriendo
atrás de la bruma que apaga el entorno
para que los árboles se luzcan
dándole profundidad al gris
Pero en este glaciar no hay nada
las rocas se empecinan hacia abajo
no hay sentidos sobre los que fiar
y la lluvia se traga cada paso
el canto de los pájaros
la gran boca abierta
de la montaña
nos deja a solas entre sus pliegues esperando el mal paso

North Cascades
What is white is white
and what is green is too
and the sky is blank
and the rocks hide beneath that color
“this is how people die”
you say
and I think of one’s own smoke
and imagine that is all:
a cigarette huff
containing us all
in a familiar blindness
we can’t see further than five feet
and our step is the measure
of the diameter
in which we die
over and over
until we find a way out
“It reminds me of England”
I lie
to imagine fleshy green trees
running behind the mist
that engulfs us
branches so green they give depth
to the endless grey
But atop of this Glacier
there is nothing but rocks
making their way down
rustling into silence
not even senses to be wary of
the rain swallows every footstep
and bird song
into the mouth agape
of this mountain top
leaving us alone
amongst its folds
waiting for the false step
